Tumhari Sulu Movie Review- Helloh…Wowza!
Sulu’s irrepressible and incorrigible.
(SLIGHT SPOILER START)
The first song is hilarious, being a mashup of athletes, dancers and the morning rush anyone who does housework knows. Sulu announces that she wants to be an RJ at the Radio Wow office.
There, clothes indeed do make the woman. Among all the Sandras in Bandra, she’s a behenji. But she doesn’t turn mod. She sticks to her sarees and her guns. Although her sexy Savita Bhabhi style Hellohs are a big laugh for her, naturally she turns horny Indian men on. She handles them hilariously, in her own desi tadka style, with aplomb.
(SLIGHT SPOILER END)
Manav Kaul reminded me of Nawazuddin Siddique. He held his own in front of Vidya Balan. I guess glamorous jobs like radio anchors make for better movies than those about women squinting at Excel spreadsheets.
Although being a Hindi movie, some plot twists are a little forced, go watch. If not a chick flick, this is a female flick. Lot of aunties in the hall. The ending surprised me. Am happy a Hindi movie could do so. Looking forward to the next one in this genre, which will hopefully take another small step for Indian womankind.
I’m a sucker for rebel with a cause women oriented movies. Dum Laga Ke Haisha. English Vinglish. And this one. They aren’t as bold as Angry Indian Goddesses or Lipstick Under My Burkha, but they strike a more realistic, deeper chord sometimes. They don’t have massive problems with endings like these two did, because they didn’t write themselves in a corner, like Thelma and Louise did too.
